The marriage visa in Thailand is a visa which can be extended in Thailand for up to one year under certain conditions. The visa also known as an “O” visa is also issued under other circumstances. The “O” visa can be issued to you if you want to visit your children or in-laws in Thailand. Most times it is used to stay in Thailand.
.
.The visa is issued at a Thai Embassy and is usually issued as a single entry visa but they do issue multiple entry visas in the UK and US from time to time. What the Thai Embassy requires is that you complete the application form for the visa and provide a copy of your marriage ceritficate and a copy of your wifes ID card and at times her ‘house papers’. Each Embassy may have different rules.
.
Once this visa is issued and if it is single entry you can only use it once and you are allowed to stay in Thailand for 3 months. This can be extended at Thai Immigration for an additional 7 days at a cost of 1,900 Baht. If it is a multiple entry visa it will be issued in 4 legs each valid for 3 months. You would need to do a ‘visa run’ every 3 months to activate the next leg of the visa.
.
The visa can also be extened in Thailand for one year however you need to show additional proof. The first being the proof of income, marriage, a map to your house or apartment, photos of you and your wife and above all you need to show an income of at least 40,000 a month or a fixed about of 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank account.
